Bama Belle Lock Cruise
Today Riley, Kacie, Grammie, Grandma and myself (Sandie) went on a "four- hour cruise" (you sing the tune). We went on the Bama Belle, which sails up and down the Black Warrior River, and went through the Oliver Lock and Dam. It was rather interesting to see how the lock works. We went in, and the doors closed with a lot of squeaking (very reasuring???) and about 30 feet of water was let out! Then we went on our merry way. We sailed and sailed for miles. The river is very curvy and it was amazing to see how the large barges get through...well some have trouble. The captain told Riley, Kacie and myself that the barge ahead of us did not start turning half a mile away, thus it was sort of stuck. He ended up turning the boat around early. We went back in the lock and a massive amounts of water came swirrling in to raise us up 30 feet. Kacie consumed a container of Pringles and Riley ate about the same amount of junk. It was so relaxing that both kids fell asleep on the way home in the car. There is a six-hour tour coming up in November...anyone interested? :-)
